The Hidden Mystery Behind The Door Of Adversity

STRATEGY #33

If you’ve been in business more than 1 year, I am sure adversity has raised its ugly head, staring you straight in the eye and daring you to slap it down.

I often tell the store of 2008, when not only myself but millions of other people in the USA were affected by the great stock market crash. That was my first experience of losing everything that you’ve worked hard for, only to have it snatched away from you, like a thief in the night.

2008 was the USA and in 2020 the entire world was sent inside their homes and basically forbidden to leave unless they were covered up and only going out for food and medical reasons. 2 Corinthians 4:8–9, says We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed. Yes, we are not destroyed if we know where our source and strength come from.

2008 left me in a daze for over a year and sent me running back to Corporate America for a little over a year. After 13 years, I was no longer free, not because I wasn’t, but because I didn't see myself as being FREE. My source was my business, not God at that time of my life, I fell into the category of, “oh yeah of little faith.” Have you ever been there?

Thanks to turning to God’s word and growing in my faith, I was able to have enough courage to leave that job, the only one I have had over the last 25 years, and create, six and multiple six figures in several businesses.

As you build your business and frankly live life, you will suffer some type of loss at some point along your journey. So hold on to the Lord, for He will surely see you through. 1 Peter 5:10 says: And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Most entrepreneurs, bow down to problems or act out of desperation when adversity shows up at their front door. Feeling sorry for themselves, becoming victims, and will do anything to prevent problems or adversity in the future, which is the biggest mistake one can make. You can not have victory as long as you remain a victim.

Think about people in their 40, 50, 60, the ’70s, and even ’90s who, unfortunately, due to no fault of their own, had something happen to them in their childhood and it weighed on them their entire life and unknowing stole their dreams along the way. They often say more dreamers are in the graveyard than any other place on earth.

However, faith-driven entrepreneurs, rooted in the word of God and the strength of his love, use adversity as an opportunity. Adversity for us is a way to worship and praise God and give him all the glory in the comeback as did Job when the devil thought he could take him out.

The story starts out and talks about, “Job’s Character and Wealth.” He was a person of honor and respect as are many of you, and because you are, you think adversity should not come upon you so when it does you are shocked and let it take you out instead of building you up.

Next, Satan was allowed to test Job, take his property and children, and on top of that attack his health. Have you found yourself in any of these situations? It can be devasting if you’re not deeply rooted in God and his word.

Even friends and family come to you and tell you to give up as they did with Job. They will boldly tell you to stop chasing that dream, go get a good job with benefits and even some have the audacity to challenge your faith, and if you are not strong you will bow down to their beliefs.

You may even begin to feel sorry for yourself and look back on your life and think woe is me and start finding comfort in being miserable and broken.

You also began to compare yourself to others and even create a believable story in your mind as to how the wicked and the dishonest seem to prosper and nothing bad ever happens to them, so why are you holding on to your faith…

You even as Job did want to argue with God. Job 40:2 Then the Lord said to Job, “You wanted to argue with God All-Powerful. You wanted to correct me and prove that I was wrong. So give me your answer!”

DO NOT DO IT.

Do not let someone else's opinion or journey determine what God has for you. God specifically choose you, gave you a predetermined gift, and set entrepreneurship as a purpose for your life, not there's. So don’t let the world take away what God had in place for you, even before you were in your mother’s womb. Meditate on Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Knowing you were also set apart, this is the time to dive deeper into the Bible and trust in God’s plan for your life so you can turn that adversity into victory, which is the hidden mystery that most never uncover.

When facing adversity, this is the time to really dive into “Biblical Principles,” along with, “Mission Marketing Principles.” This one-two punch combination becomes vital to not only turning things around but it allows you to grow in your faith and finances. You become so rooted that nothing, not even death will make you flinch.

Once your mind and heart get to this point you are now unstoppable that adversity now becomes a “life changer” for yourself and your businesses. There are so many stories of business owners who took that adversity and turned it into an opportunity to teach others.

I think of Art Williams, founder of Primerica, whose dad died unexpectantly when he was a child. He learned from his Attorney cousin, at a family picnic when he was in his twenties that if the insurance agent had sold his dad a term policy instead of a cash value policy for 10,000 they could have had a 100,000 term policy plus mutual funds paying the exact same amount of money, which would have prevented the struggles they went through.

Because of this revolution, Art began to do some research, which is a Mission Marketing principle and found out that not only did his family get ripped off but millions of others were also. He started a company and in seven years, he went from being a high school football coach and teacher to building a billion-dollar company all from the adversity he and his family faced. He choose victory instead of victimhood.

As you continue your entrepreneurial journey, you’re going to experience some ups and downs. If you’ve “been there”, then you understand. And if you have yet to experience a setback, then be prepared. You can either do what most business people do and retreat to a “comfort zone” of mediocrity. Or you can run into the fire and transform adversity into opportunity and create a prosperous life for yourself.

In the day of the internet, you can see, right in front of your eyes, countless people who started with nothing but adversity and grew it to millions of dollars and most importantly impacted millions of lives. Are you next?

Don't let the mainstream media’s news of gloom and doom, naysayers, viral fack videos have you surrendered your destiny and not operate from your gift and live out your purpose in life.

Run into God’s arms and know just like the Hebrew boy’s he will protect you in the fire, just praise him, keep the faith and do the work necessary to live out your predetermined destiny. It’s up to you, God is willing, are you?
