Solomon Asks for Wisdom

Solomon made an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt and married his daughter. He brought her to the City of David until he finished building his palace and the temple of the Lord, and the wall around Jerusalem.

2 The people, however, were still sacrificing at the high places, because a temple had not yet been built for the Name of the Lord. 3 Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.

4 The king went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices, for that was the most important high place, and Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

6 Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.

7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.

13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for — both wealth and honor — so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.” 15 Then Solomon awoke — and he realized it had been a dream.

He returned to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the Lord’s covenant and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then he gave a feast for all his court.

As you read the passage above of how and why King Solomon ask for Wisdom first to be a good steward over his assignment (business). I ask you one question upfront, have you asked God for wisdom when it comes to your assignment/business?

In an earlier strategy, we covered raising your prices, but would you feel worthy of asking twice the amount and position yourself as the best in the industry and the top provider for the service that you offer?

Could you double your prices without question — instead of wondering about whether to raise your prices 20%, 30%, 35%, etc., because you have the wisdom and knowledge that warrants such an ask?

Let’s Look at Solomon’s Wisdom:

29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.

31 He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite — wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.

32 He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five.

33 He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish.

34 From all nations people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.

Have you published, posted, provided, and gotten results for others? If you would take the 3000 proverbs and in today’s world say they are posts, videos, lives, blogs, newsletters, books, events, etc, how close are you to that number or have you published and helped enough to even feel confident to consider doubling your offer?

The idea of doubling your prices may seem crazy if you have not provided enough value to the market place and if that’s the case, make a plan to start immediately, with the mindset of being the best in the industry and charging what the best charge without apology.

If you currently find yourself in a position where you are always, dealing with issues from clients about pricing, it's because you are attracting the coupon-deal-searcher, time-consuming problem clients, which sucks up a lot of your time and energy.

This concept of doubling your prices is for those who want to earn more and provide more value by doing the same thing, with people who value their expertise, which means dealing with high-end, affluent clients who are more than willing to pay for and get excellent services because of your reputation, just like Sheba did from King Solomon. Read the story below and allow it to help you gain a revolution on what having a great reputation and fame can do for your business.

The Queen of Sheba Visits Solomon

10 When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions. 2 Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan — with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones — she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind. 3 Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her. 4 When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, 5 the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at[a] the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.

6 She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. 7 But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. 8 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 9 Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”

10 And she gave the king 120 talents of gold, large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

11 (Hiram’s ships brought gold from Ophir; and from there they brought great cargoes of almugwood and precious stones. 12 The king used the almugwood to make supports for the temple of the Lord and for the royal palace, and to make harps and lyres for the musicians. So much almugwood has never been imported or seen since that day.)

13 King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for, besides what he had given her out of his royal bounty. Then she left and returned with her retinue to her own country.

Could you answer all the questions of the people seeking your service? Will they walk away saying, this was better than I even imagine? Have you done enough to be perceived as the expert?

This is an important factor to consider and once you can say yes to those questions, doubling your prices will be an easy decision.

When you double your prices as a small business owner, it will not only help you but the people you want to serve as well as the charities and allow you to be able to give more in offering and tithes which eventually leads to more people being introduced to the Kingdom.

You can also be excited to know that if you doubled your prices right now, you want to target more affluent customers, clients, and patients who are easy to work with, and the price is no objection.

But remember, it’s not about the money you make, being perfect or only working with the wealthy. It is about giving more than what’s expected and acquiring the wisdom and using that to get the results to serve people for God’s Glory and then using those resources to help more people and help to grow God’s Kingdom.

In closing, use King Solomon's story of asking God for wisdom and doing the work necessary as well as building up the confidence to make more, give more, save more and do more to help you create the lifestyle and business you desire.
